born 5/6/08 · 4 hobs, 6 jills - 1 really small black sable girl.
What's wrong with her?!? Well...her momma dunked her in a bowl of mush when she was only a few days old. Not on purpose, she was re-arranging her
nest and this little girl must have gone flying and landed in the drink. She got herself out of the mush and crawled to the corner of the litterbox
where she got very, very cold. This whole baby drama happened within minutes. Babies are raised for the first few weeks right on the edge of my desk so I
can check on them constantly for the first week. When I found the wee little girl, she was wet, cold and making the most pathetic little peeps you've ever
heard.

Needless to say, the effects of hypothermia on her 15 gram self were pretty extreme. The next several days were touch and go, but she decided she'd like to make it so she stablized about 5 days after her swim. Sadly for her, she was quite behind her littermates so she got hand fed every few hours around the clock until her teeth came in and she could clamp down on a nipple without being cast aside by her much larger littermates. Oddly, her development has been right on par with her littermates, just at a much smaller size. Her teeth came in on time, her eyes are opening ahead of schedule and she's now feeding herself at the mush bowl with her littermates.

So what will become of her? Honestly, I dont know. I made a deal with her, as long as she wanted to live, I'd keep helping her do so. I have no idea what her long term prognosis will be so she's not available for general adoption. In all likelyhood, if she survives, she'll stay right here with me, but I'd consider allowing her to go to the home of someone I know well or someone who's very experienced in the ways of ferret health issues. However it works out, she'll stick around here until she's at least 6 months old and probably much longer. To give you an idea of how small she is, she's about 55gm in those pictures. That's not quite 2oz.
